My Letter to the New Press Secretary
Dear Katie,
I am pretty sure your name is Katie. I write to you as an American, a former Teaching Assistant to Communication Arts 100 (Speech Composition), and a Democratic yet sympathetic viewer.
I understand why you took the job. It is truly once in a lifetime, and you’ll forever have an image of you behind a podium with the words “The White House” in front of it. I know you knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I don’t think any of us knew how ill equipped you were.
But really, you don’t have to do this. It’s ok to be bad at something and change your mind. Honestly, if you resigned right now, your tenure would be truly historic. You could do an entire speaking tour about how to pivot in your career and not be afraid to fail.
You’d just have to rehearse a bit more beforehand.
Sincerely,
Dan
