Meanwhile
I will do everything but write. Swiffer the floors (dry and wet), change out the ice trays, dust the windowsills, scrub the tub, surf the internet, read an article, rearrange the books from largest to smallest, vacuum the rug, do the dishes, meal prep, go on a walk, exercise, check email, refold the microfiber cleaning cloths into rectangles in each of my eyeglasses’ cases, look out the window, open the mail, flip through an alumni magazine, look at the calendar, research travel plans, online shop, and adjust the smallest item ever so slightly so it sits just right.
Then, and only then, do I finally sit down.
Unless something else comes up.
